Golf
For nearly a century, prominent Americans have matched skills on our three courses. Most recently, Golf Digest named The Greenbrier as the #8 golf resort in the United States. America’s Resort is also proud to host The Greenbrier Classic, a PGA TOUR FedExCup event held on the legendary Old White course for six consecutive years. The Greenbrier Course hosted the 1979 International Ryder Cup and 1994 Solheim Cup matches as well as three American Express Championships in the mid 1980s. The Meadows Course, which hosts numerous state and regional championships annually, was renovated in 1999.
Our three 18-hole championship courses, The Old White, The Greenbrier and The Meadows all offer a unique glimpse into our long golf history and provide everything from the restored challenge of The Old White to the magnificent views of the Meadows.
With such a rich golf heritage, The Greenbrier is fortunate to have hosted some of golf's most prominent players. You can walk in the footsteps of legends such as Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Nick Faldo, inaugural Greenbrier Classic champion Stuart Appleby and Tom Watson, who have played our distinct courses.
Watson, our golf professional emeritus, is the winner of 39 events on the PGA TOUR and current player on the Champions Tour. Among Watson’s major victories are two Masters Tournaments, the 1982 U.S. Open and a remarkable five at the British Open (1975, 1977, 1980, 1982 and 1983). He also won the 2001 Senior PGA Championship and the 2003, 2005 and 2007 Senior British Open.
Golf Academy
For those seeking to learn to play the game from scratch or improve their stroke or technique, The Greenbrier Golf Academy provides the ultimate in golf instruction. Attendees will benefit from leading edge teaching, playing philosophies and techniques, all focused on achieving results while ensuring a memorable experience.
New for Junior Golfers
All three of The Greenbrier's championship courses are now home to Junior Tees. Yellow (US Kids Personal) tee markers have been set throughout and special junior scorecards are available.
Each course will play at approximately 4000 yards, which is 1000 yards shorter than the red tees. The shorter course not only offers an opportunity for younger players, but also beginners of all ages.
